September 3: Undisputed WBO Junior Featherweight King Naoya Inoue to Defend Crown Against TJ Doheny at Ariake Arena in Tokyo LIVE on ESPN+

WBO bantamweight world champion Yoshiki Takei to defend strap against Daigo Higa in the co-feature

TOKYO (July 16, 2024) — Pound-for-pound icon Naoya “The Monster” Inoue will defend his undisputed WBO world championship against Irish-born former world champion TJ Doheny on Tuesday, Sept. 3 at Ariake Arena in Tokyo. Inoue, a two-weight undisputed king, has knocked out eight consecutive foes.

Inoue-Doheny headlines a star-studded card streaming live and exclusively in the U.S. on ESPN+. This special early morning broadcast will also include WBO bantamweight world champion Yoshiki Takei (9-0, 8 KOs) defending his belt against former flyweight world champion Daigo Higa (21-2-1, 19 KOs).

“Naoya Inoue is a generational talent, and every time he fights, the boxing world stops to watch the master at work,” said Top Rank Chairman Bob Arum. “TJ Doheny is a veteran who can never be counted out, as he’s defied the odds many times when fighting in Japan.”

Inoue (27-0, 24 KOs) claimed his first world title more than 10 years ago and is 22-0 with 20 knockouts in world championship fights. Inoue’s undisputed legacy began in December 2022 when he knocked out Paul Butler to unify all the bantamweight titles. He then consolidated the super bantamweight division in short order, capturing the WBC and WBO world titles by stopping Stephen Fulton in eight in July 2023 before vanquishing WBA/IBF champion Marlon Tapales that December. The 31-year-old powerhouse, named 2023 Fighter of the Year by ESPN and Ring Magazine, returned to headline at the historic Tokyo Dome in May. In the first boxing card there since Buster Douglas shocked Mike Tyson in 1990, Inoue survived a first-round knockdown to KO Mexican two-division champ Luis Nery in six.

Doheny (26-4, 20 KOs) has a rich history in Japan and against Japanese fighters. He is 3-0 against Japanese fighters and 4-0 on Japanese soil, with three victories as the betting underdog. Doheny dethroned IBF junior featherweight world champion Ryosuke Iwasa on enemy territory in August 2018. He defended the belt against Japanese challenger Ryohei Takahashi via 11th-round TKO the following January before losing the strap to Danny Roman in a close unification fight that April. Despite some setbacks, Doheny has rebounded with three consecutive wins on Japanese turf. He defeated Kazuki Nakajima via fourth-round TKO in June 2023, blasted out Japhethlee Llamido by first-round stoppage last October, and triumphed over Bryl Bayogos in four rounds on the Inoue-Nery undercard.

Three-weight WBO world champion and two-division undisputed king Terence “Bud” Crawford looks to conquer a fourth weight class when he takes on WBA junior middleweight world champion Israil Madrimov on Saturday, Aug. 3, at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles.

Crawford-Madrimov tops a star-studded bill that includes Top Rank-promoted heavyweight sensation Jared “The Real Big Baby” Anderson, who steps up against fellow knockout artist Martin Bakole.

Crawford-Madrimov, Anderson-Bakole, and additional undercard fights will stream LIVE on Top Rank on ESPN+ PPV.

Crawford (40-0, 31 KOs) moves up to 154 pounds following last July’s career-defining TKO over Errol Spence Jr. to win the undisputed welterweight championship. The Omaha, Nebraska, native and pound-for-pound superstar has won 11 straight fights by stoppage. Madrimov (10-0-1, 7 KOs), a native of Uzbekistan, captured the WBA 154-pound crown in March with a fifth-round TKO over Magomed Kurbanov in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Anderson (17-0, 15 KOs), from Toledo, Ohio, is the sport’s preeminent heavyweight up-and-comer. He bested former world champion Charles Martin by decision last July, stopped Andriy Rudenko in five rounds the following month, and returned in April with a one-sided unanimous decision over Ryad Merhy. Bakole (20-1, 15 KOs) has won nine straight fights and made a splash on the Tyson Fury-Francis Ngannou bill last October, weighing in at a massive 299.5 pounds and dispatching former title challenger Carlos Takam in four rounds.

The Top Rank on ESPN+ PPV will also feature:
WBA 140-pound champion Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz (26-2-1, 18 KOs) making his first world title defense against Jose “Rayo” Valenzuela (13-2, 9 KOs).

Former unified heavyweight world champion Andy Ruiz Jr. (35-2, 22 KOs) returning from an almost two-year layoff to fight Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller (26-1-1, 22 KOs).

Cuban standout David Morrell (10-0, 9 KOs), winner of seven straight by stoppage, going for number eight in a 12-rounder at light heavyweight against former world title challenger Radivoje “Hot Rod” Kalajdzic (29-2, 21 KOs).

Cuban Olympic gold medalist Andy Cruz (3-0, 1 KO) seeks to continue his rapid ascension up the lightweight rankings against battle-tested Mexican puncher Antonio Moran (30-6-1, 21 KOs) in a 10-rounder.

Chris Billam-Smith retained his World Boxing Organization (WBO) junior heavyweight title as well as avenging the only defeat of his career with a unanimous decision over Richard Riakporhe at Crystal Palace’s Selhurst Park.

The two first met in 2019, when Riakporhe won a split decision, and since then both have improved professionally, but five years of Billam-Smith’s dominance were instrumental in his victory in the rematch.

After 12 rounds, the English fighter had a score of 116-111 and two more of 115-112.

Óscar Collazo made a successful third defense of his WBO Mini Flyweight title when outscored Gerardo Zapata by unanimous decision in Verona, New York.

Zapata showed in the second round that he could cause some problems when a right hand almost sent the defending champion to the canvas.

This was the only moment of concern for Collazo who went onto control the rest of the fight, and it looked like Collazo could have ended it early after stunning Zapata with a right hand in the sixth, but he was unable to capitalise.

While Zapata gave a good account of himself, it was clear that Collazo was the winner with two judges scoring the fight 119-109 and the other 117-110 in his favour.

Janibek Alimkhanuly-Andrei Mikhailovich Unified WBO Middleweight World Title Showdown Set for July 13 at Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas LIVE on ESPN+

Tickets go on sale Tuesday, June 4 at 12 p.m. PT via Ticketmaster.com

Kazakhstan’s middleweight king is gearing up to defend his unified crown against an unbeaten contender seeking to claim his throne.

Janibek “Qazaq Style” Alimkhanuly will put his Unified WBO Championship on the line against New Zealand’s Andrei Mikhailovich on Saturday, July 13, at Pearl Concert Theater at Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas.

Janibek-Mikhailovich and Muratalla-Farmer top a loaded bill that will stream live and exclusively in the U.S. on ESPN+ and Sky Sports in the UK and Ireland.

Promoted by Top Rank, in association with No Limit Boxing, tickets go on sale Tuesday, June 4 at 12 p.m. PT and can be purchased at Ticketmaster.com.

“Janibek is the best middleweight in the world and willing to fight anyone in that division. Mikhailovich is a hungry, undefeated contender, and he is coming from New Zealand to shake up the title picture,” said Top Rank Chairman Bob Arum. “Muratalla can compete with any lightweight in the world, and I expect Tevin Farmer to give him a stiff test. Tevin is a decorated former champion who understands that a win puts him right back in the title picture.”

Janibek (15-0, 10 KOs), a 2016 Olympian, quickly rose the ranks from prospect to contender ranks. In 2021, he registered knockout wins over former belt-holders Rob Brant and Hassan N’Dam before securing the WBO Interim middleweight world title with a second-round demolition of Danny Dignum in May 2022. He was elevated to full champion after Demetrius Andrade vacated the title and made his first defense with a unanimous points win versus Denzel Bentley that November. In May 2023, he blasted out Canadian contender Steven Butler in two rounds and became a unified champion that October by vanquishing IBF king Vincenzo Gualtieri via sixth-round TKO.

“I look forward to defending my world titles, and I must give Andrei Mikhailovich a lot of credit. The other world middleweight champions refused the challenge, and he stepped up to the plate,” Janibek said. “On July 13 in Las Vegas, I will show the world ‘Qazaq Style’ again. The road to undisputed continues, and Mikhailovich is in my way.”

Mikhailovich (21-0, 13 KOs) was born in Saint Petersburg, Russia, and was raised in New Zealand. He began boxing at 15 and turned pro five years later in April 2018. Mikhailovich captured his first regional strap with a third-round TKO versus Ernesto España in June 2022 and decisioned Francis Waitai across eight rounds the following month. He registered his most impressive victory in April 2023 by rising off the canvas in the opening stanza to stop then-unbeaten Edisson Saltarin in five. He returned one year later to score a first-round TKO win over Les Sherrington.

Mikhailovich said, “At the end of the day, Janibek is just another guy, another test on my way to greatness. Others will say this is a big deal, but to me, this is fate. I was born for this. Since day one, I have planned to dominate, take over, and control my destiny. I train relentlessly, eat right, and always maintain a warrior’s mindset, so I don’t need any extra motivation because the two belts are on the line.”
