Pacheco (22-0 18 KOs) is closing in on World title action as the #1 ranked contender with the WBO. The LA star headlines for the sixth show in a row and for the second time in Las Vegas, where he saw off Shawn McCalman on points in April, before returning to his home turf in August to record his 18th win inside the distance with a sickening body shot KO win over Maciej Sulecki – performances that further bolstered his standing as one of the hottest talents in the game, which was confirmed by ESPN ranking Pacheco #2 in their list of the top fighters under 25, second only to pound-for-pound star and stablemate Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez.

Nelson (20-0 16 KOs) has been hunting a big fight and now gets the chance to derail Pacheco’s rise to the top and move himself into the great position that his young foe has reached. The 36 year old last tasted action in August in Los Angeles with a fifth-round stoppage win over Marcos Rodriguez on the undercard of his good friend and fellow Omaha fighter, Terence Crawford.

“I’m very excited to be back in the ring early 2025 against another undefeated opponent –the DP show continues,” said Pacheco.

“This is the type of fight I been wanting so I can show the world who I am,” said Nelson.

Diego Pacheco will defend his WBO International Super-Middleweight title against Steven Nelson at The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas Saturday, January 25, live worldwide on DAZN – with Cuban Olympic star Andy Cruz taking on Omar Salcido and Ernesto Mercado facing Jose Pedraza on his Matchroom debut.

Emanuel Navarrete proved— once again — why he’s a complex puzzle to solve. “El Vaquero” stopped Oscar Valdez in round six with a left hook to the body, retaining his WBO junior lightweight world title in a highly anticipated rematch Saturday evening at Footprint Center.

Navarrete (39-2-1, 32 KOs) bested Valdez (32-3, 24 KOs) by decision in August 2023, but this time, the fighting pride of Nogales, Mexico, did not see the final bell.

Navarrete knocked down Valdez three times, including at the end of the opening round. While Valdez succeeded in small pockets, the three-division champion landed the harder, more telling blows.

It was a return to form for Navarrete, who bounced back from May’s decision loss to Denys Berinchyk for the WBO lightweight title. He came back to the junior lightweight ranks and used his awkward style and looping punches to once again blunt Valdez’s aggression.

“I had to work hard in each round. I had to push him back. He comes forward. I had to push him back. And that was the right strategy to take down a Valdez who is always strong,” Navarrete said. “I told everyone before that I would have a new left hand. And that’s what has happened. It felt really good. We are now starting a second stage of my career. And I plan to take advantage of it.”

Valdez said, “We tried. That’s the most important thing. We tried to get the victory. Sorry to those who came to see me.

“I wish it was a better result. Maybe next time. No excuses from me. He beat me well.”

Rafa Repeat: Espinoza TKOs Ramirez to Retain Featherweight Crown

It was an odd ending, but once again, Rafael Espinoza got the best of Robeisy Ramirez. Espinoza defended the WBO featherweight world title with a sixth-round TKO, earning the stoppage after Ramirez turned away and complained of double vision early in the round.

Espinoza (26-0, 22 KOs) dethroned Ramirez (14-3, 9 KOs) via majority decision last December in an action classic that featured a dramatic 12th round. This time around, the end came suddenly and shockingly. Ramirez led 48-47 on two cards and trailed 49-46 on the third when the fight was stopped.

“I was just doing my job. Obviously, I caught him,” Espinoza said. “I was barely getting started. Honestly, I think the pressure and the rest of the rounds were going to be very difficult for him. This means that he felt my power. He felt my hand. Perhaps he thought that he wouldn’t be able to handle it. But it happened. I won.

“I’ve said it from the start. I want to be a legend. I want to be a Mexican boxing great. I want to fight against anyone. I want the people to know that I’m here to give them great fights.”

Ramirez said, “He got me with his elbow twice in the fourth round. That’s when I started to see double. I told the referee. He did his job. He scolded him, but the damage had been done already.

“I think {abandoning the fight} was the best decision. I did that instead of taking more punches, especially since I have double vision, and I couldn’t be at my best. That’s the best decision in order to take care of my health. If I can’t continue because of my vision, it’s better to stop.”

In a history making fight presented in co-promotion with Sampson Boxing, and the new WBA, WBC, WBO, IBF and Ring Magazine Flyweight Undisputed World Champion Gabriela “Sweet Poison” Fundora (15-0, 6 KOs) of the Coachella Valley, California defeated the former unified Champion Gabriela “LA Chuky” Alaniz (15-1, 6 KOs) via technical knockout to become the youngest undisputed champion male or female. Scheduled as a 10-round war, the back-and-forth action saw Fundora drop Alaniz twice in the seventh-round, leading Alaniz’ corner to wave the white towel at 1:40 in the round.

“This is a dream come true that I have made become a reality,” said Gabriela Fundora. “My team and I have been training to make history and we did that tonight. I didn’t really feel Alaniz’ power, but I knew she came to do what I did which is look for a knockout. I had been practicing that punch since the beginning of training camp – I felt like Bruce Lee preparing for this fight. We’ll see what’s next for me – I can go up in weight or go down – we will see.”

In a historic, Undisputed Female Flyweight World Championship co-promoted with Sampson Boxing, the Coachella Valley’s undefeated IBF Flyweight World Champion will challenge Buenos Aires, Argentina’s WBA, WBC, WBO Flyweight World for all the marbles – including the Ring Magazine Flyweight World Title Belt in a 10-round war.

This morning the executive committee was called for voting with two lists, one headed by long time President Francisco Valcárcel, Esq and the other by Gustavo Olivieri, Esq however, before the vote, Valcárcel announced that he did not intend to run after 30 years at the head of the organization and asked that they vote for Olivieri, whom he gave his support to after an 8-year working relationship in which Gustavo served as his right-hand man.

“I became president of the WBO in November 1994. I want to have time for myself. Before the elections, I would like to tell everyone that I prefer to step aside. I am already 76 years old, so that you have the opportunity to elect the person who I hope will be the next president who can help this organization to reach the place of honor where we have always wanted to be. I am asking those who are going to elect to accept that I am retiring and that the candidate for whom I would vote, because I would vote for Puerto Rico, is called Gustavo Olivieri”.

Olivieri said that he undoubtedly has big shoes to fill, but he noted that democracy, honesty and integrity will allow him to lead the organization to greater heights. He thanked Valcárcel for his teachings and also for the support of the executive committee and the office.

“It is a privilege and I hope, with everyone’s help, to take this organization to another level. I count on you,” said the new president of the organization.

“I lost a girlfriend because of work. My girlfriend told me: ‘Either Paco (Valcárcel), Luis (Batista), the WBO or me,’ and I said, ‘I love what I do, I’m happy with what I do and I’m passionate about what I do,’ and this isn’t a job for me, it’s a pleasure,” he confessed.

“I spend more time with Paco and Luis than with my family. Their teachings extend beyond the professional aspect. Beyond being my teachers, my advisors, you have become my family,” he concluded.

WBO bantamweight world ruler Yoshiki Takei returns in the co-feature

TOKYO (Oct. 23, 2024) – Boxing’s most prolific undisputed king is ready to close out the year on a ‘Monster’ note.

Naoya Inoue will defend his super bantamweight crown against unbeaten Australian contender Sam Goodman on Tuesday, Dec. 24, at Ariake Arena in Tokyo.

Inoue will make an unprecedented third defense of his undisputed crown within a single calendar year while looking to secure his 10th consecutive knockout.

Inoue-Goodman will headline a special early-morning broadcast streaming live and exclusively in the U.S. on ESPN+. In the co-feature, Yoshiki Takei (10-0, 8 KOs) will defend his WBO bantamweight world title against an opponent to be named.

Inoue (28-0, 25 KOs) began his four-belt legacy in December 2022 when he stopped Paul Butler to unify all the bantamweight titles. Then, within a little over a year, the 31-year-old knocked out WBC/WBO champ Stephen Fulton in July 2023 and WBA/IBF king Marlon Tapales that December to achieve undisputed glory in a second weight class. He made history again in May by headlining the first boxing card at the Tokyo Dome since the historic Mike Tyson-Buster Douglas showdown, overcoming a first-round knockdown before icing former two-division world champion Luis Nery in six. In September, he registered a seventh-round TKO over one-time junior featherweight king TJ Doheny.

Goodman (19-0, 8 KOs) is a 26-year-old Australian who entered the paid ranks in 2018. He went 4-0 in 2023, earning points victories over Doheny as well as then-unbeaten talents Ra’eese Aleem and Zhong Liu. He authored a fourth-round TKO against Mark Schleibs in March before decisioning previously unbeaten Thachtana Luangphon across 12 in July.
