Durante conferencia de prensa realizada ayer en el Casino Pharaohs, el presidente de la Organización Mundial de Boxeo (OMB), el puertorriqueño Francisco Valcárcel, aseguró el gran interés de esa entidad por rendir homenaje a la máxima gloria del pugilismo nica, Alexis Argüello, con un show que incluya dos peleas de título del orbe.

El primer combate de esa magnitud sería entre el japonés y retador Tomoki Kameda, 27 (18 KO)-0, contra el monarca originario de Namibia, Paulus Ambunda, 20 (10 KO)-0, quien se apoderó del cinturón gallo (118 libras) OMB el pasado 2 de marzo, contra Pungluang Sor, por decisión unánime. Aquí el retador oficial es el nica Randy Caballero, quien aguardaría al ganador si se realiza esta reyerta.

La segunda sería la de Carlos “Chocorroncito” Buitrago, 24 (15 KO)-0, quien retaría al campeón mínimo (105 libras), el filipino Merlito Sabillo, 21 (11 KO)-0, quien noqueó en ocho asaltos al colombiano Luis de la Rosa el pasado 9 de marzo.

“Ya existen negociaciones con el apoderado del monarca africano y aunque escuché que no estaban dispuestos a venir a Nicaragua, tengo que hablar con el manejador del campeón, para ver qué pasa”, dijo Valcárcel.

Según el presidente de la OMB, a los organizadores de la cartelera no les costaría un solo centavo el montaje de esta pelea, porque los promotores japoneses se encargarían de todos los pagos.

En el caso del enfrentamiento de Buitrago contra Sabillo, según Valcárcel aquí se tendría que hacer cierta inversión para cumplir con la bolsa del filipino, y el nica tendría que ser más mesurado en sus pretensiones y aprovechar la oportunidad.

“Soy optimista y creo que se podrán realizar estos combates de título mundial. Ya hablamos con el Vicealcalde de Managua, Enrique Armas, para ver si es posible contar con el apoyo del gobierno municipal y central para este proyecto”, concluyó el dirigente de la OMB.

En la actividad también estaban y se involucrarían Silvio Conrado Jr. (Prodesa), Tuto Zavala (All Star Boxing), Ricardo Maldonado, los manejadores de Tomoki Kameda, que es su papá Shiro, y Ricardo Rizo.

Cuando Guillermo Rigondeaux sintió el peso de la faja que lo acredita como campeón de la Organización Mundial del Boxeo (OMB), dejó escapar un respiro hondo, casi interminable, y antes de mirar al público le habló al cinturón dorado con su nombre inscrito en letras profundas, como si se tratara de algo muy querido: “no pienses que te voy a dejar escapar en el futuro’’.

El rey cubano de las 122 libras recibió el premio oficial de parte del presidente de la OMB, Francisco Valcarcel, quien voló expresamente desde su sede en Puerto Rico para agasajar a Rigondeaux (12-0, 8 KO) delante de decenas de seguidores en el conocido Restaurante Versailles, en pleno corazón de Miami y centro de la numerosa comunidad de la mayor de las Antillas.

Todavía fresco de su triunfo el 13 de abril contra el destronado Nonito Donaire, Rigondeaux –que ya poseía el cetro de la Asociación Mundial de Boxeo (AMB)- disfruta por estos día de un merecido descanso, pero ya piensa en regresar al gimnasio con el objetivo de realizar dos defensas más de sus coronas antes de que finalice el año. Después de todo, el santiaguero es de esos que odia a los que pierden el tiempo, algo que él no tiene para perder.

Unos días después de la pelea y con la vista reposada, ¿cómo has vivido estos momentos?

“Si supieras que siempre he estado relajado, hasta el mismo día del combate estuve sin ningún nerviosismo y con una confianza total en el triunfo. Eran muchos los que no creían en mí, pero yo sabía que la oportunidad estaba de mi lado. Ser campeón unificado no es cosa de todos los días’’.

¿Cuando miras el video de la pelea, qué es lo que más te resalta?

“Me acuerdo de mi primera olimpiada, en Sidney, porque en aquel momento como ahora, me tracé un plan de acción y estrategia que funcionó a las mil maravillas. Es fácil tener un plan, pero lo duro es ejecutarlo sin apartarse mucho y con la flexibilidad necesaria para ajustarlo sobre la marcha’’.

¿ Esperabas más de Nonito?

“Nonito es un gran boxeador, aunque haya perdido. Pero creo que me subestimó y pensó que yo sería presa fácil. Al final no lo digo yo, lo dicen los que saben, que le di una clase de boxeo. Es un tipo de púgil que marcha siempre a un mismo ritmo y no sabe variar los estilos. En mi caso, trato de adaptarme al rival y a las circunstancias’’.

¿Ahora con dos títulos en la mano, qué viene en tu camino?

“Vamos a ver quién aparece. Si antes cuando era campeón de un solo organismo era difícil encontrar rival, ahora que poseo dos fajas tampoco será algo de coser y cantar. Yo no tengo problema en escoger oponente, lo complicado es que ese oponente diga que quiere subir al mismo ring con Guillermo Rigondeaux’’.

Juan Manuel López ha hablado maravillas de ti, al igual que Abner Mares, ¿habría alguna posibilidad de medirte con ellos?

“Si bajan a las 122 libras, aquí los espero. Yo ni subo ni bajo, aunque puedo ir a 118. Así que todo el que ande entre esas libras, ya lo sabe, estoy disponible y escuchando ofertas’’.

Minutos después de que levantaran tu mano, el promotor Bob Arum mostró una mueca en el rostro y dijo que sería difícil promoverte en el futuro…¿no te parece una falta de respeto enorme?

“Antes del combate yo le advertí a él que mirara a ver lo que hacía conmigo que yo le iba a ganar a Nonito y le iba a tumbar su castillo en el aire. Ahora me tiene que comer con papas. Entiendo a los que les gusta el estilo de dar y dar como si fueran locos, perfecto. Pero eso no es boxeo, al menos no es lo que entiendo como boxeo. Yo también puedo, si me da la gana, entrar a esa candela constante, pero no lo hago para satisfacer a nadie en particular. Repito, el boxeo es mucho más que eso’’.

World Boxing Organization president Francisco “Paco” Valcarcel has credited Filipino world champions for helping get the WBO to be finally recognized in Japan.

In an overseas telephone conversation with the BoxingScene.com/Manila Standard, Valcarcel said “that with all the Filipinos fighting around the world it helped a lot because it wasn’t easy to enter Japan.”

Valcarcel cited Manny Pacquiao and WBO champions  Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire, Donnie Nietes and Brian Viloria as well as “the support in Asia.”

He extended the WBO’s gratitude to businessman-sportsman and boxing promoter Akihiko Honda and Mexican promoter Felix “Tito “ Zabala for their help and disclosed that “they are very close to us and we worked like undercover” for the past five years.

He said now that the WBO can have world title fights in Japan there will be more opportunities for Japan to finally have WBO world champions because “its not easy for them in Mexico and the Philippines but now they can promote fighters like Nietes, (bantamweighty champion) Pyungluang Sor Singyu who will defend his title in Namibia and all the other big names.”

Valcarcel who will be in Macau for the blockbuster Top Rank promotion on April 6 said his first big plan is “to  work to have some Japanese fighters in Macao” and that he would meet with Japanese promoters today because they want to participate and can make good offers for champions to come here (to Japan) and fight.”

He also commended WBO Asia Pacific vice president Leon Panoncillo for his work in the region and revealed he was “shocked because everybody, especially the promoters, knew and liked Leon.”

Tokyo, Japan: WBO President Francisco “Paco” Valcarcel arrived in Tokyo today for a press conference to be held on Monday where together with the Japanese Boxing Commission they will announce the official entrance of the organization to Japan.

The delegation included WBO Ratings Chairman Luis Perez, WBO Asia Vice President Leon Panoncillo and Promoter Felix “Tutico” Zabala. Upon his arrival Mr. Valcarcel declared: “I’m very happy and delighted to have been able to get our organization into such a great Country, this is history in the making, I want to thank the JBC, Mr. Akihiko Honda and Felix “Tutico” Zabala who have work very hard for the past 3 years to make this happen.

The press conference will be held at 2 PM, Monday, February 18, 2013 at the Tokyo Dome Hotel.

World Boxing Organization (WBO) president Francisco “Paco” Valcarcel has congratulated Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire for being named “Fighter of the Year” by the prestigious Boxing Writers Association of America.

Donaire is the reigning WBO, Ring Magazine and WBC Diamond Belt super bantamweight champion.
Valcarcel also expressed pride in the fact that the fourth fight between Juan Manuel Marquez and Manny Pacquiao last December 8 which Marquez won by a crushing 6th round knockout was chosen “Fight of the Year” by the BWAA.
The WBO crowned Marquez as WBO “Champion of the Decade” for his victory.
Valcarcel said “We (the WBO) want to congratulate Nonito Donaire for this achievement, being elected as the Boxer of the Year. We are proud of Donaire because he is a great champion, one of the best now, and a good person. It’s an honor to have Donaire as our champion”.
Valcarcel also commended Donaire’s trainer Robert Garcia. He said. “I want to congratulate too Robert Garcia for his Trainer of the Year Award. Robert is a good friend of mine, but also is one of the best trainers in the sport. He has a good group of fighters and a good future with them”.
Donaire (31-1, 20 KOs) fought four times in 2012, starting in February with a win over Wilfredo Vazquez Jr., at the Alamadome in San Antonio, Texas when he handily won the WBO super bantamweight title.
In July, Donaire beat Jeffrey Mathebula in his first title defense in the process breakinbg IBF champion Mathebula’s jaw in two places. Donaire followed this up with a spectacular 9th round TKO of Japan’s WBC super champion Toshiaki Nishioka in October and ended the year with a smashing 3rd round knockout of four division Mexican champion Jorge “Travieso” Arce.
Valcarcel said the fourth showdown between Marquez and Pacquiao didn’t let the fans down. The WBO president said “We knew this was a great fight and they didn’t let us down. Pacquiao and Marquez are two legends and in this fight they showed their talent to the world in an exciting fight.”
Valcarcel added, “We are very proud of Marquez and Pacquiao, great WBO champions.”

El puertorriqueño Román “Rocky” Martínez, campeón junior ligero de la Organización Mundial de Boxeo (OMB), y el mexicano Juan Carlos “Mini” Burgos, estuvieron frente a frente hoy durante la conferecia de prensa final para su combate de este sábado, 19 de enero en el primer gran cartel de 2013, que se llevará a cabo en el Teatro del Madison Square Garden y que será transmitido por la telecadena HBO en una presentación de Top Rank.

Además, se vieron las caras en la conferencia esta tarde, los protagonistas del turno estelar, el monarca pluma de la OMB, Orlando “Siri” Salido (38-11-2, 26 KOs) y Miguel Ángel “Mikey” García (29-0, 25 KOs), así como los coestelaristas, el campeón mediano de la AMB, Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (24-0, 21 KOs) y el descendiente de boricuas Gabriel “Gabe” Rosado (21-5, 13 KOs). Estos tres pleitos se verán por HBO, iniciando la transmisión a las 9:45 p.m. hora del Este (10:45 p.m. hora de Puerto Rico).

Este martes 15 de enero, Enrique Armas Rosales asumió el puesto de vicealcade de Managua, capital de Nicaragua, en una sesión extraordinaria que fue organizada en el capitalino Parque Luis Alfonso Velásquez Flores.

Armas Rosales es un reconocido cronista deportivo de Nicaragua, que ya cumplió un período como primer concejal del Partido Frente Sandinista de Liberación Nacional (FSLN), mismo que inició con Alexis Argüello (ya fallecido), hace cinco años.

Cronista deportivo especializado en beisbol y boxeo desde los años setentas, Armas Rosales es un periodista que labora con éxito en su programa radial Playoff de Radio 580, y en sus programas de televisión “La Hora de La Ardilla” y “Grandes Campeones del Boxeo”, los que transmite semanalmente en Multivisión Canal 4.

Armas Rosales también es amigo de la Organización Mundial de Boxeo (OMB), en especial su presidente Francisco “Paco” Valcárcel y su clasificador Luis Pérez, ambos de Puerto Rico. También con Félix “Tutico” Zavala, director de la empresa promotora “All Star Boxing”, con quien organizó en diciembre del 2009 una interesante cartelera de orden mundial.

La Organización Mundial de Boxeo (OMB), está de regreso en Nicaragua. Hoy, el presidente de la OMB, el puertorriqueño Francisco “Paco” Valcárcel, llegará al país para entregar una donación como parte del programa “Niños Libres de Drogas”, que todos los años impulsa esta organización a nivel mundial. Valcárcel, junto a Luis Pérez, presidente de clasificaciones de la OMB, estuvieron ayer en Panamá para hacer la respectiva donación, que también ya se realizó en Puerto Rico. Esta semana, también se deben conocer más detalles del posible combate de Carlos Buitrago contra el colombiano Luis De la Rosa, por la corona mínima de la OMB.

Durante la tarde de este miércoles, las oficinas del Hogar de Niños de las Garzas de Panamá, recibió la visita del Presidente de la Organización Mundial de Boxeo (OMB), Francisco “Paco” Valcárcel y el presidente de clasificaciones de la OMB, Luis Pérez, quienes realizaron una entrega de un refrigerador grande, para guardar los víveres de los niños, mientras que el vice-presidente de la Comisión de Boxeo de Panamá, el Ing. Edwin Zúñiga, regalo una estufa   para   los niños.

Además de la entrega se regalos para el hogar de los niños, la OMB hizo la entrega de los implementos de boxeo para los corregimientos donde se está practicando el boxeo en la Republica de Panamá.

Dicha actividad fue bendecida   por el padre del hogar y dirigida por el Presidente de la Comisión de Boxeo de Panamá e integrante de la OMB, el Lic. Rolando Marcos Hermoso y la presencia de los comisionados José Oliver Gomez y Erich Cheng, los promotores Rogelio Espiño   y Diego Victoria, y demás integrantes de la familia del boxeo, los árbitros   Héctor Afu, Guillermo Pérez Pineda y los jueces Julio Cesar Alvarado y Dr. David Singh y el director de NotiFight, Ludo Saenz L. Luaces, entre otros.

Los niños se divirtieron en la ceremonia de entrega de los regalos para su recinto y disfrutaron de un jugoso refrigerio, con sus canastitas, y gozaron con la presencia del ex-campeón mundial, Vicente “El Loco” Mosquera.

El Sr. Francisco Valcárcel agradeció el apoyo de la familia del boxeo panameño en estas actividades y se comprometió a seguir ayudando a los más de 25 países donde realizan el programa “Niños Libres de Drogas” en beneficio de la sociedad a nivel mundial.

De esta forma la OMB cumplió con su visita y donación en suelo panameño y seguirá su camino de ayuda a la sociedad este fin de semana, con la niñez del hermano país de Nicaragua.

Hace cuatro años en Fort Lauderdale, Florida, la comunidad boxística de la familia de la Organización Mundial de Boxeo (OMB) le dio su voto de confianza a Francisco Valcárcel al reelegirlo como presidente del ente con sede en Puerto Rico.

Hoy a menos de un mes que se celebren las bodas de plata del prestigiado organismo, en el mismo escenario de hace cuatro años, se llevarán a cabo las elecciones para presidente por un periodo de otros cuatro años.

No se sabe de otro candidato, solo se especula que hay aspirantes, sin embargo, en estos momentos la mejor opción es darle continuidad a los planes y al trabajo que se ha venido realizando, por lo que a nadie le caería mal la reelección de Paquito Valcárcel.

Entrevistado al respecto por www.boxaldia.com, el representante de la OMB en México, Rafael López Santos dijo que la mejor carta en este momento es Paquito Valcárcel por la labor realizada.

“Francisco Valcárcel es sin duda alguna la mejor carta de sustento para poder decir que es la persona idónea para darle continuidad a la vida democrática, a la unidad y al importante desarrollo que la OMB está teniendo en el mundo”, mencionó López Santos.

La OMB ha ganado un prestigio sin precedentes en los últimos 10 años, pero en los 5 anteriores ha dejado constancia de su presencia en países como Rusia, Alemania, México, Argentina, Estados Unidos, los que más promueven el boxeo y eso se refleja en sus campeones mundiales.

Los Súper Campeones actuales son Wladimir Klitschko, Manny Pacquiao, Juan Manuel Márquez y Omar Narvaez.

Para las elecciones se espera el apoyo de países como Rusia, Brasil, Ucrania, Inglaterra, Sudáfrica, República Dominicana, Uzbekistán, Bielorrusia, Francia, Alemania, Turquía, Dominicana, Argentina, España, Estados Unidos solo por mencionar algunos, donde no puede faltar México que abiertamente apoya a Valcárcel por su trabajo y dedicación al frente del organismo.

“México como siempre dará todo su apoyo a Francisco Valcárcel, y no dudamos que la comunidad mundial también hará lo mismo para que de una manera unánime la votación que se lleve a cabo durante la próxima convención favorezca y designe a “Paquito” Valcárcel como presidente para el próximo período”, señaló López Santos.

Vale la pena mencionar que el festejo de los XXV años de la OMB, los trabajos y las votaciones para presidente se celebrarán en el famoso Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino en Hollywood Ft. Lauderdale Florida durante los días del 22 al 26 de octubre.

CATAÑO, PUERTO RICO- Como parte de su exitoso programa “Kids Drug Free”, la Organización Mundial de Boxeo (OMB), junto a varios contendores y prospectos puertorriqueños, llevó hoy sus clínicas de boxeo y motivación a los niños y jóvenes de Residencial Jardines de Cataño en Cataño, Puerto Rico.

“Lo más importante es que se mantengan alejados de la drogas y las cosas malas y que se enfoquen en los estudios y los deportes, en las cosas buenas, como hacen estos muchachos que están aquí, que son prospectos del boxeo y pueden llegar a campeones mundiales”, dijo el presidente de la OMB, Francisco “Paco” Valcárcel a los presentes.

Robles, quien es líder comunitario en el Residencial Jardines de Cataño, exhortó a los niños y jóvenes a ingresar a los deportes y mantenerse en la escuela para lograr un mejor futuro.

Los peleadores Quijano y González mostraron algunas de las técnicas del boxeo, así como la forma en que deben lanzar los golpes los peleadores, guiados por el ex retador mundial y ahora entrenador, Jorge Maysonet, padre, y los árbitros José H. Rivera y Roberto Ramírez Jr.

La actividad, que se realizó en la cancha de baloncesto del lugar, contó con la con la participación de decenas de niños y jóvenes del Residencial, que además recibieron camisetas y bultos de la OMB, así como una sorpresa que Valcárcel le dijo.

Now that a World Boxing Organization panel of so-called independent judges chosen by the organization’s Championship Committee has declared Pacquiao as a convincing winner after a review of  the tape of the title fight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas last June 9, what now?

Two of the three judges appointed by the Nevada State Athletic Commission — Cynthia Ross and Duane Ford turned in scorecards of 115-113 that helped Bradley win a split decision after the third judge CJ Roth had Pacquiao the winner 115-113.

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum, who handles both fighters, condemned the decision and branded the three judges, including CJ Roth who had Pacquiao the winner, “three blind mice” and requested the Nevada State Attorney General to investigate the circumstances surrounding the decision and the fight itself amidst unsubstantiated speculation that it was a “fix.”

Two prominent US senators joined the fray and called for the creation of a single national boxing commission that would oversee the various aspects of the sport.

Democratic Majority Floor Leader Harry Reid, a friend of Arum and someone who obviously is grateful for Pacquiao’s last minute endorsement at a campaign rally in Las Vegas in which he urged Filipino-Americans to support Reid, and Sen. John McCain, who like Reid boxed in his younger days, used the bizarre decision in the Pacquiao-Bradley fight to win support for new legislation.

The WBO review panel’s scorecards should clearly bolster their efforts while at the same time raising serious questions about how NSAC executive director Keith Kizer could initially, nonchalantly dismiss calls for an investigation into the incompetence of the judges if there is no evidence to prove something more sinister.  Kizer’s position is understandable although seriously flawed because he recommended the judges who were eventually chosen from a pool of six nominees to do the fight.

Kizer informed us “the judges want to come in (individually) and review the bout and I want to watch it with them” and adds that “a judge re-watching a fight is always helpful (whether there is controversy or not).” The question is, what next?

WBO president Francisco “Paco” Valcarcel had, a few days before the fight, proudly handed Pacquiao a  Diamond Ring as the “Fighter of the Decade” in what might be considered an effort to  try and match the rival World Boxing Council’s Don Jose Sulaiman putting the first Diamond Belt on the line which Pacquiao won with a rousing 12^th round TKO of Miguel Cotto.

Valcarcel sent the review panel’s scorecards to Kizer and broke it down systematically, which demonstrated their wide differences with the official fight judges scorecards. He pointedly noted “the results speak for themselves.”

Apparently they don’t speak loud enough since Valcarcel, in the same breath stated,   “There is no question of our respect and high regard for the official judges. Their integrity is not in question. However, it was decided that a review of the bout should take place with a panel of five confidential judges mainly to maintain impartiality.”

We subscribe to the appreciation of integrity as the quality of wholeness which was totally missing in this case.

Even a cursory reading of the scorecards of the five review judges and those of Ford, Ross and Roth show that the fight, to use Arum’s own words in dismissing any thought of a rematch, ” was not even close.”

Review judge No. 4 (since their identities have been kept secret at least for the time being) had Pacquiao winning by the widest margin, 118-110, while Judges 3 and 5 scored it for Pacquiao 117-111. Judge No. 2 had Pacquiao winning 116-112 which was our unofficial scorecard when we covered the fight with respected boxing commentator/journalist Atty. Ed Tolentino for The Filipino Channel of the giant broadcast network  ABS-CBN.

Judge No.1 scored it the closest at 115-113 but still had Pacquiao the winner which matched the scorecard of Jerry Roth.

A closer reading of the scorecards shows that all five review judges agreed unanimously that Pacquiao won rounds 1, 3, 5, 6 and 10 while all five agreed unanimously that Bradley won only the 10^th round.

According to Arum, the investigation of the Nevada State Attorney General’s Office is being pursued as the Chief Investigator and the Deputy Chief Investigator visited him in his Las Vegas office on Wednesday. He said they  “questioned me about a lot of background things for over an hour.”

Arum revealed that they asked him whether he had any proof of criminality and he answered “None, absolutely none.”

This, taken together with the announced views of Valcarcel and Kizer point to a dead-end as far as unearthing any evidence of corruption or wrongdoing, which means there is no way the WBO or the NSAC will reverse the decision or even declare the fight a no decision which would enable Pacquiao to retain his belt.

Like all other efforts to right the wrongs in boxing, nothing is expected to come out of the posturing of the parties to a decision which we ourselves initially referred to as a high crime in Las Vegas where Sin City added one more sin to its list of wrongdoings.

The only glimmer of hope is that Senators Reid and McCain can muster enough support in the U.S. congress to get the much-needed reforms they seek and boxing badly needs, if it is to survive.

The only other alternative would be for Pacquiao to accept the realities of the sport in Las Vegas, return to the scene of the crime and exact vengeance not on Bradley because he had nothing to do with what happened, but to at least win by a knockout or TKO and deprive the judges of a chance to do more harm and send the three blind mice a telling message.

The World Boxing Organization on Wednesday announced it has assigned five judges to re-score Manny Pacquiao‘s controversial loss by decision to Palm Springs’ Timothy Bradley in an effort to convince state commissions to widen the pool of judges for major fights.

Although many at ringside for Saturday’s fight gave Pacquiao between nine and 11 rounds, judges Duane Ford and C.J. Ross scored the bout 115-113 (seven rounds to five) in Bradley’s favor, and a third Nevada judge, Jerry Roth, had it 115-113 for Pacquiao in the WBO welterweight title contest.

WBO President Francisco “Paco” Valcarcel said five judges, from New Jersey, Connecticut, Florida, Pennsylvania and Puerto Rico, will re-score the bout and submit their work confidentially to the WBO, with the scores to be gathered by Monday.

Valcarcel said that armed with that information, he will submit to the Assn. of Boxing Commissions by its July meeting a request that state commissions such as Nevada’s work more diligently to bring in judges from outside their states for fights of the magnitude of a world title contest.

Before the Pacquiao-Bradley judges were assigned by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, Valcarcel said he submitted a list of 20 judges from elsewhere who could be assigned to the bout. None were chosen.

“We’re asking the ABC to make recommendations how a sanctioning body like ours can work better with a state commission, to use this experience to have better scoring in the future,” Valcarcel said.

Valcarcel said he is not considering stripping the WBO belt from Bradley, and will not order a mandatory rematch, because Pacquiao’s contract stipulates he would get a rematch if he lost the bout. In promoting the fight, Bradley had printed up a poster and ticket hyping Bradley-Pacquiao II on Nov. 10.

“This wasn’t Bradley’s fault, and we’re not saying there was any evidence of fraud or corruption here,” Valcarcel said. “That’s outside the scope of what we’re doing.”

He said he’s also not questioning the integrity of Ford or Ross.

“There are excellent judges available internationally, and they should be considered,” Valcarcel said. “We’ve done it here in Puerto Rico, bringing in judges from Nevada.”

El presidente de la Organización Mundial de Boxeo (OMB), Francisco “Paco” Valcárcel, anunció que esta entidad, por medio de su Comité de Campeonatos, evaluará la pelea entre Manny Pacquiao y Timothy Bradley, que terminó en un controvertible resultado el pasado sábado, 9 de junio, para tomar medidas acorde con el reglamento.

Valcárcel informó que el Comité de Campeonatos se reunirá próximamente y examinará “con cinco reconocidos jueces internacionales para evaluar el video de la pelea (entre Pacquiao y Bradley) y de acuerdo a lo que surja, el Comité de Campeonatos hará su recomendación de acuerdo a las reglas”.

El pasado sábado, 9 de junio en Las Vegas, Pacquiao (54-4-2, 38 KOs) y Bradley (29-0, 12 KOs) se midieron por el título welter de la OMB, que estaba en poder del filipino, y el pleito terminó en una victoria por decisión dividida a favor del estadounidense con votaciones de 115-113 (Duane Ford), 115-113 (C.J. Ross) y 113-115 (Jerry Roth).

“Quiero aclarar que de ninguna manera esto dice que estamos dudando de la capacidad de estos jueces, a los que consideramos como honestos y competentes”, precisó Valcárcel.

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (PNA) – Filipino boxing hero Manny Pacquiao has been accorded yet another honor – that of being the World Boxing Organization’s “Best Pound-for-Pound Fighter of the Decade.” WBO president Francisco “Paco” Valcarcel announced this during the Final Press Conference of the Manny Pacquiao-Tim Bradley welterweight championship fight held at the Hollywood theater of the posh MGM Grand here.

Valcarcel gifted Pacquiao an imposing diamond ring, in appreciation of Pacquiao’s 10-year heroics, in a simple ceremony inserted in the program with members of Team Pacquiao and Team Bradley, media men and supporters of both camps.

“This diamond ring is being given in recognition of Manny Pacquiao as the WBO’s Best Pound-for-Pound Fighter of the Decade,” Valcarcel said during the award rite.

After the ceremony, Pacquiao walked toward front of the stage showing the ring in his finger to the audience to the delight of the photographers and camera men.

WBO’s recognition came on the heels of the “Fighter of the Decade” honor handed him by the Boxing Writers Association of America, three “Fighter of the Year” accolade, also by the BWAA, and a couple of ESPY Awards.

Both camps, Pacquiao and chief trainer Freddie Roach, on the one hand, and Bradley and chief trainer Joel Diaz, on the other, expressed confidence of victory even as they assured.
Bradley, the reigning unified junior-lightweight champion who is challenging Pacquiao for his 147-pound crown, spoke first, drawing laughter when he said,” I’m ready because I went through a hell of a training camp,” or something to that effect.

Pacquiao, who up to yesterday had been installed a 5-1 favorite ((minus 480 to Bradley’s plus 360) in Las Vegas’ bookmakers odds, fired back saying he, too, has prepared hard describing his cap as “heaven.”

The cocky challenge, showing confidence of a win, showed all the attendees a poster announcing the Pacquiao-Bradley II and a sample of a ringside ticket complete with the date of the fight and the price pegged at $1,200.

He then looked at Pacquiao sitting at his right, shook the Filipino’s hand and said,”I’m ready, I’m ready.”

During his turn to speak, Pacquiao, 33, meekly said he understood Bradley’s feelings, that he knew his challenger is younger and that he also intent to keep his title as he trained like he is 26 years old.

At the backstage though, during the post-presscon interviews, Pacquiao said he’s refuting Bradley’s gimmickry “in Jesus name.”

Roach, for his part, laughed off Bradley’s rematch gimmick, saying, “Well, we thank him for giving us a rematch, but I’m afraid of is that it won’t happen. We’ll make sure of that.”

“As I have been saying, we had a good camp, Manny prepared without distraction whatsoever. We’ve studied Bradley’s fights and realized his strength and his flaws. His problem is how to connect against a fast opponent like Manny. “ he analyzed.

“We studied all his moves, including his tendency to use his heads and we have found a solution to that,” Roach said. “I think Manny will knock him out.”

Also attending the presscon were Bob Arum, top honcho of Top Rank Promotions who presided over the news conference, MGM Resorts president Richard Stern and representatives of HBO, TNT and Tecate Beer.
