Palicte ready to rumble against rodriguez for the vacant WBO Asia Pacific Batamweight Championship
In a press conference at the Beso Spanish Restaurant located at the Banifacio High Street in Taguig City on August 15, 2012, Vincent “Popeye” Palicte (14-3-1, 7Kos) of Bago City Negros Occidental is ready to rumble against Frederix Rodriguez (8-2-1, 6 Kos) from the province of Bukidnon in a most awaited fight on August 16, 2012 at the Mandaluyong City Sports Complex. The two protagonist will battle for the coveted vacant WBO Asia Pacific Bantamweight Championship, which was vacated by the AJ “Bazooka” Banal of Cebu City.
When Plalicte was asked during the press conference, “I will try to do my best in this fight having prepared at least three months now. I am 100% prepared and sparred more than a hundred rounds. I do not want to waste this opportunity because winning this fight against Rodriguez would catapult my name in the world rankings in the bantamweight division.” He won his last two fights by way of 4th round knock out against Ryan Oliveres and also a knockout against Ricky Oyan.
Rodriguez, having a knockout rate of 75% is no pushover. He has easily won the first seven fights of his career winning five of them by way of knock out either in the first or second round. Recently, he knocked out John Paul Apolinario in the first round last May 11, 2012 in Bukidnon.
The fight card is promoted by by Joven Sports Promotions owned and managed by a youthful yet hardworking Joven Jimenez, who is also manages and trains boxers at the Top Contender Gym in Muntinlupa City.
