Arthur Abraham makes first WBO title defense on December 15
New WBO super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham will make his first title defense on December 15.
New WBO super middleweight champ Arthur Abraham will return to the ring on December 15 against an opponent to be named, making the first defense of the title he won from Robert Stieglitz on August 25.
Abraham (35-3, 27 KO) has steadied his career after a rocky patch, and finally won a major title in the 168-pound division on his third attempt, previously losing blowout decisions against Carl Froch and Andre Ward with belts on the line.
Now 32, the two-division champion can probably get an extended run under his belt if he intends to stick to a schedule of the non-elite, which will likely be the case.
You can most likely expect a mid-tier challenger in December for Abraham, someone to give him a title defense win to close out the year. But he has had struggles against Stieglitz and Piotr Wilczewski, too – he’s vulnerable, even against the non-elite, so it could get interesting if someone capable is chosen. And that’s not the worst thing, really.
