Fuentes To Face Landero on March 3, Then Ivan Calderon

WBO mini-flyweight champion Moises Fuentes (14-1, 6KOs) will make the first defense of his title on March 3rd in Tijuana, against Filipino contender Michael Landero (15-5-4, 5KOs). If all goes well, Fuentes will move forward to a showdown with former champion and Puerto Rican superstar Ivan Calderon (35-2-1, 6KOs) on April 28th.

“I’m thinking of a great future. I know I have the weapons and tools to work well and do a good job in the ring. I want to beat Landero and go forward against Ivan Calderon, the number one challenger,” said Fuentes

“I know I can make a lot of defenses at this weight. I want to make history, my dreams are big, and I have no fear.”

Former two-division world champion Ivan Calderon will return on April 28th at the Palacio de los Deportes in Mayaguez (Puerto Rico). The veteran will get another shot at a world championship, as the finishing touches are being made for a showdown with Mexico’s Moises Fuentes (14-1, 6KOs), the WBO title king at 105-pounds. Calderon held the WBO title for many years and retained the belt numerous times before he made a move to junior flyweight.”We are talking about holding [the fight] at the Palacio de los Deportes. We want the people of the west to have the opportunity to see world championship boxing,” said Peter Rivera, vice president of PR Best Boxing Promotions.

Calderon (35-2-1and 6KOs) is going to begin training hard in February and plans to use the same gym, the Wilfredo Gomez Arena, where he works as an instructor. Calderon says that he needs to be very focused to achieve his best physical condition to recapture the belt that he previously held for many years.

“And I still have gas in the tank for a few more years. There are fighters who are older than me and beating everyone, like [Vitali] Klitschko and Bernard Hopkins, who is 46. It’s a matter of desire and care for my body,” Calderon said. “It will be very interesting for me to fight with an opponent who is very tall (5’8 “). I’m going to go out there and give everything to win that title.”

GUAYNABO, PUERTO RICO- After a non stop action in 2011, PR Best Boxing Promotions (PRBBP) presents its agenda for this 2012 when multiple events will be made from Puerto Rico to the World.

The successful series “A Puño Limpio”, that started in 2011 with 8 events and great prospects and contenders in action on WAPA America will be back with 10 shows this 2012. Also will be back the series “San Juan Boxing Nights”, as part of the Telefutura’s Solo Boxeo Tecate events, with 5 cards. Showtime will present the revenge between WBO Featherweight champion Orlando Salido and former two time champion Juan Manuel “Juanma” Lopez on March 10 at the Coliseo Roberto Clemente. “Pay Per View” shows and DIRECTV exclusive events will complete this year for PRBBP.

“We have a full agenda for this 2012 with about 20 events in Puerto Rico. We will present shows from January and month after month for the boxing fans”, Promoter Ivan Rivera, PRBBP president, said. “In these shows you will see our former champions with their chances to win titles again, our contenders in title fights and our prospects in action”.

PRBBP will start this 2012 with the return of the series “San Juan Boxing Nights” this Saturday, January 21 at the coliseo Pedrín Zorrilla in Hato Rey, San Juan, in a show to be televised on Telefutura’s Solo Boxeo Tecate. “San Juan Boxing Nights” will return on March 24, May 19, August 18 and October 13.

While, the series “A Puño Limpio” will be back on February 3 from the coliseo Luis Aymat in San Sebastian, Puerto Rico live on WAPA América (9:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. ET). “A Puño Limpio” returns Friday, March 2 at the coliseo Angel “Cholo” Espada in Salinas. Then, Friday, April 13, Friday, May 4, Friday, June 1, Friday, July 6, Friday, August 3, Friday, September 7, Friday, October 5 and Friday, November 2. Venues will be announced.

About boxers, Lopez will be face Salido on March 10, Ivan “Iron Boy” Calderon (35-2-1, 6 KOs), the former 105 and 108 pounds champion, will challenge WBO mínimum champion Moises Fuentes son. Calderon is the WBO #2 ranked in 105 pounds. Meanwhile, former WBO junior lightweight champion and current #4 ranked Roman “Rocky” Martinez (25-1-1, 16 KOs) must fight in a title bout or a title eliminator fight in theses months.

Also, world contenders as Jonathan “Polvo” Oquendo (22-2, 15 KOs), Jose “Chelo” Gonzalez (18-0, 13 KOs), WBO ranked #2 and #5 in the 122 and 135 divisions, respectively, superflyweight WBO #4 ranked Juan Mercedes (26-3, 17 KOs), former WB supermiddleweight champion Manuel Alejandro Siaca (24-7, 20 KOs) and junior middleweight contender Jorge “Destroyer” Melendez (21-2-1, 20 KOs), will have their chances.

PRBBP prospects as amateur world champion McWilliams Arroyo (9-1, 8 KOs) and David Quijano (13-2-1, 9 KOs) will headline the first “San Juan Boxing Nights”. Unbeatens McJoe Arroyo (9-0, 5 KOs) and Luis Joel Gonzalez (9-0-1, 5 KOs) in the first “A Puño Limpio”. Also, in action soon Jonathan “Bomba” Gonzalez (7-0, 6 KOs), Camilo Perez (6-0, 4 KOs), Rafael Gonzalez (6-0, 6 KOs), Kenneth Diaz (3-0, 3 KOs), Carlos Negron (13-1, 9 KOs), Victor Bisbal (19-1, 13 KOs) and Osenohan Vazquez (4-1, 2 KOs).

PRBBP will present a DIRECTV event on April 28 in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, and two Pay Per View shows on August 25 and October 20 in venues to be announced.

CAGUAS, PUERTO RICO- Como parte de su programa “Kids Drug Free”, los ex campeones mundiales Iván “Iron Boy” Calderón y Wilfredo Vázquez Jr., y la Organización Mundial de Boxeo (OMB) compartieron por tercer año consecutivo en esta semana de Acción de Gracias con los niños y jóvenes de la Casa Laura Vicuña de Caguas, que trabaja distintas actividades para niños y jóvenes de la Barriada Morales.

“Por tres años seguidos estamos aquí en estos días de la semana de Acción de Gracias compartiendo con estos niños y jóvenes y lo seguiremos haciendo. Lo que queremos es que se mantengan lejos de las drogas y todos los problemas que hay en la calle”, expresó el presidente de la OMB, Francisco “Paco” Valcárcel. “Es grande el trabajo que hacen todas la personas que trabajan en esta institución para que estos niños y jóvenes sigan adelante”.

La Casa Laura Vicuña es una entidad sin fines de lucro dirigida por las Hijas de María Auxiliadora (Hermanas Salesianas) que se dedica a llevar a niños y jóvenes de entre 4 y 18 años un programa de Educación y Prevención en su tiempo libre, con estos programas dividiéndose en Tutorías, Asignaciones y proyectos y Artístico. En el mismo participan cientos de niños y niñas del área de Caguas. La OMB auspició una Cena de Acción de Gracias para los niños y jóvenes de la Casa Laura Vicuña, así como los regalos repartidos en el bingo que se realizó en el lugar.

En la actividad, además de Calderón y Vázquez Jr., estuvieron el monarca supergallo Latino de la OMB Jonathan “Polvo” Oquendo, el campeón ligero Latino de la OMB José “Chelo” González, así como los prospectos McWilliams y McJoe Arroyo y Jonathan “Bomba” González, quienes compartieron con los niños y jóvenes que participan de los programas de la institución.

Además del choque por el cetro interino de las 105 libras de la Organización Mundial de Boxeo (OMB) entre Iván “Iron Boy” Calderón y Raúl “Rayito” García, otras cuatro reyertas titulares, incluyendo una mundial de damas, compondrán el “Torneo de Campeones OMB” en otra edición de la serie “Noche de Campeones DIRECTV”, que subirá a escena el sábado, 29 de octubre, en el coliseo Mario “Quijote” Morales de Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, en una presentación de PR Best Boxing Promotions (PRBBP) como parte de la 24ta Convención Anual de la OMB.

El programa, que será llevado gratis en vivo y en exclusiva desde las 9:00 de la noche a través de ON DIRECTV en el canal 161 para todos los suscriptores de DIRECTV en Puerto Rico, contará con la participación coestelar de los ex campeones mundiales Wilfredo Vázquez Jr. y Carlos “El Indio” Quintana, así como la monarca mundial minimosca femenina OMB y AMB, la argentina Yésica “ La Tuti” Bopp.

La pelea principal de la noche tendrá al doble ex campeón mundial, Calderón (34-2-1 y 6 nocauts) midiéndose al también ex titular García (30-2-1 y 18 nocauts) por la correa interina de peso mínimo de la OMB.

Mientras, la argentina Bopp (16-0 y 7 nocauts) expondrá su cinturón mimimosca de la OMB ante la estadounidense Suzane Warner (9-10-1 y 2 nocauts) a 10 asaltos.

“Tendremos estas dos peleas de título mundial, la de los ex campeones mundiales Calderón y García, y la de Bopp, y le añadimos tres de títulos regionales con Papito Vázquez y El Indio Quintana, así como tres peleas más con varios prospectos puertorriqueños”, dijo el promotor Iván Rivera, presidente de PRBBP.

En uno de los choques coestelares, el mocano Quintana (28-3 y 22 nocauts), ex monarca welter de la OMB y séptimo clasificado en estos momentos por esta entidad en las 154 libras, tendrá un importante enfrentamiento cuando se mida al fuerte pegador manatieño Jorge “Destroyer” Meléndez (20-2-1 y 20 nocauts). En este pleito estará en juego el título latino superwelter de la OMB.

Mientras, Vázquez Jr. (20-1-1 y 17 nocauts), ex campeón supergallo de la OMB, peleará por el título supergallo Intercontinental de la OMB, a 10 asaltos, frente a un rival que se anunciará próximamente.

Otro choque titular será el que escenificarán el boricua Javier Monserrate (24-1-1 y 17 nocauts) y el mexicano Javier Castro (25-4 y 20 nocauts) por el cetro latino superligero de la OMB a 10 asaltos.

El resto de la acción presenta a cuatro asaltos, a Israel “El Heredero” Vázquez (3-0-2 y 3 nocauts) midiéndose al debutante Jesús Pagán en el peso mosca; en los pluma a Kenny Rivera (1-0 y 1 nocaut) contra un rival por determinarse, y el cubano Leduan Barthelemy (2-0 y 2 nocauts) en los supergallos ante un contrario por anunciarse.

La 24ta Convención de la OMB se llevará a cabo en Puerto Rico del 24 al 29 de octubre.
