WBO Jr. Middleweight World Champion Jaime Munguia Currently Training With Erik Morales

The current junior middleweight champion of the World Boxing Organization, Jaime Munguia, is currently training in his native Tijuana with former world champion Erik ‘Terrible’ Morales, in the gymnasium of the North Zone, according to ESPN Deportes.

Munguia is waiting to receive a date for his next defense of the 154 pound world title.

Morales has been close to Munguia in the gym, as well as the well-known Fernando Fernandez, who already helped Munguía while getting ready to face Dennis Hogan last April in Monterrey, when he defended his world title in a closed decision for the fourth time.

It has not been established yet if Munguia will train full-time with Erik Morales and if the four-time world champion will have the availability for it, since he is currently a federal deputy, but in the coming weeks there could be news of whether or not the young boxer plans to continues with current coach Roberto Alcázar or goes in full-time with Morales.

In the bout with Hogan, the Mexican boxer showed a very vulnerable defense. He was tagged with hard combinations throughout the fight and there were many who felt Hogan had done enough to get the decision.

Hogan and his team filed a protest with the WBO, challenging the scores of the contest and demanding an immediate rematch. But the WBO had independent judges score the fight and they sided with the initial outcome and refused to order an immediate rematch.
