WBO Champions Excel in the Pound for Pound Lists Across the World
World Boxing Organization president Francisco “Paco” Valcarcel feels very proud about the achievement of the WBO world champions, and their standing in the “Top 10 Pound for Pound” lists across the world.
“The fact that our world champions are between the top ten fighters pound-for-pound is a reason for pride, but it also means that we are doing things right, here at the WBO. We are working very well with everyone involved in the boxing world”, Valcarcel said. “Without a doubt, we have the best champions”.
In one of the most recent “pound-for-pound” list, the Puerto Rican newspaper “Primera Hora”, has 5 current WBO champions among the top ten fighters pound-for-pound.
Primera Hora published their pound-for-pound list today, and topping the list is WBO Welterweight champion, the Filipino Manny Pacquiao (55-3-2 38KO) after a narrow decision victory over WBO Lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez, who appears #5 on the list of the Puerto Rican newspaper.
WBO Bantamweight champion and also Filipino, Nonito Donaire (27-1 18KO) is #4 on the list, meanwhile, WBO Heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (56-3 49KO) of Ukraine appears as #7. Finally, WBO Junior Welterweight champion Timothy Bradley (28-0 12KO) occupies the final spot at #10 after his knockout victory against Joel Casamayor.
In addition, two other fighters that appear in this pound-for-pound list were recently WBO champions. These are: Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez (48-2-2 27KO), who held the WBO Middlweight crown and sits at #2 in the list; and the Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto (36-2 29KO) who held the WBO Junior Welterweight and Welterweight titles, is at #8 in the list.
