In the third and final installment of their trilogy, Filipino ring legend Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao (58-6-2, 38 KOs) scored an entertaining twelve round unanimous decision over two-division former world champion Timothy “Desert Storm” Bradley (33-2-1, 13 KOs) in front of a crowd of 14,665 on Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

The bout started off in tactical mode, but things heated up midway with some exciting exchanges. Pacquiao knocked down Bradley at the end of round seven. Bradley came back to stagger Pacman in round eight. Pacquiao dropped Bradley again in round nine. In the end, scores were 116-110 on all three cards.

Promoter Bob Arum announced today that the June 27 clash between former two-division world champion Timothy “Desert Storm” Bradley Jr. and undefeated WBA super lightweight world champion Jessie Vargas will be for the vacant WBO welterweight championship. That belt was last on the line when Floyd Mayweather fought Manny Pacquiao on May 2. After the fight, Mayweather accepted the belt, but it was agreed beforehand that should he win the title would be vacant. Bradley-Vargas takes place under the stars at StubHub Center in Carson, California, and will be televised live on HBO.

Tim Bradley: I think this fight might be a candidate for fight of the year. I’m already calling it right now. A lot of you out there see this fight on paper and you guys are like ‘It’s an easy fight for you Bradley.’ And I’m like ‘Y’all crazy. What do you mean easy fight for Bradley?’ This fight is not easy whatsoever…I call StubHub ‘The War Ground,’ because overtime there’s a fight there, there’s always a war. And I think this fight’s gonna be a war.

Jessie Vargas: Everyone is expecting a great fight. We know that Timothy Bradley and myself always give it our all in the ring. We have the heart of a lion. On June 27th we both have to dig very deep and we’ll see who comes out with the victory.

Bob Arum: Tickets are on sale tomorrow. I don’t know why we’re not waiting for the week of the fight to put them on sale.

Undefeated two-division world champion Timothy “Desert Storm” Bradley (31-0, 12 KOs), trainer Joel Diaz and Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum hosted an international media conference call from Bradley’s Palm Springs training camp on Thursday to discuss Bradley’s eagerly-anticipated April 12 WBO welterweight championship PPV rematch against Manny Pacquiao (55-5-2, 38 KOs). This will be Bradley’s third defense of the world title he won from Pacquiao in their previous fight.

Timothy Bradley: I’ve got a lot to prove in this fight. I’ve gotta prove that the first fight wasn’t a fluke. There’s a lot of things that happened in the first fight that weren’t right. This time I’ll be 110% ready.

I gained a lot of experience from my last two appearances on HBO, one in particular against Marquez, who is a great champion and great fighter, legendary, and also the fight of the year against Ruslan Provodnikov. So I’m a different fighter now, a different beast, a different animal and this time around I’m gonna prove it to the fans and everybody. The last time around I got the win but it felt like I lost because I didm’t get any credit from the fans and it’s very important to get the credit from the fans. I definitely gotta win by a wide margin.

Joel Diaz: We don’t really feel the support. Everybody goes to the Wild Card to see Manny Pacquiao train, he’s in great shape, he’s in great preparation… but nobody comes around to Tim Bradley’s gym to see how he’s doing. But in a way I like that because curiosity, it sometimes puts a little bit of fear. Nobody knows how Tim Bradley is training and he’s very ready to come to Vegas and ruin the party for a lot of people again.

Bob Arum: This rematch is special because the previous fight ended in a decision win for Timothy Bradley and a lot of people thought the decision could have gone the other way. That can be debated endlessly, so a rematch gives a definitive answer to who is the better fighter.

Timothy Bradley

By Ryan Burton –

Reigning WBO welterweight champion Timothy “Desert Storm” Bradley waged a memorable war with tough Siberian contender Ruslan Provodnikov this past March in Carson, CA.  Bradley stood his ground and traded with the powerful puncher, getting hurt on several occasions throughout the fight.  The Southern California based fighter showed tremendous heart in withstanding the assault and ended up coming out on top in one of the leading “Fight of the Year” candidates.

The soon to be 30-year-old fighter is now scheduled to face Mexican icon Juan Manuel Marquez on October 12th in Las Vegas, NV.  On the most recent edition of BoxingScene Radio, Bradley told us that he thinks that we are in for another war when he steps in the ring with Marquez.

“You know what, I think that this fight is going to end up that way.  I am willing to do whatever it takes to win this fight.  If I need to go toe to toe that’s what I will do.  I know Marquez likes to engage.  He’s a dog in there and I am willing to weather the storm to get the win,” Bradley revealed.

Eyebrows were raised when Bradley turned down a rematch against former 8 division champion Manny Pacquiao.  Bradley created plenty of new opportunities after his gritty performance against Provodnikov set the boxing world abuzz this spring.  He said that a Pacquiao rematch wasn’t the only lucrative option available to him.

“It was really easy man (to fight Marquez instead of Pacquiao).  I have already been down that road, especially after the Provodnikov fight.  A new door opened.  The lights are brighter on my end after like you said, a ‘Fight of the Year candidate’,” Bradley told BoxingScene Radio.

Bradley did however say that he does want a rematch with the Filipino superstar and that part of his reasoning for facing Marquez is that the aging Mexican fighter probably won’t be in the sport for too much longer. He wants to add Marquez’s name to his ledger and then will look at facing Pacquiao in the near future.

“Pacquiao and I definitely will have to get back in the ring sooner or later but I wanted this fight to add to my legacy before Marquez leaves the game.  He is almost 40 years old and may not have much time left.  He is motivated.  He wants to be the first Mexican fighter to win titles in 5 different weight classes.  He’s hungry and I am hungry.  It is going to be one hell of a fight,” Bradley stated.

Unbeaten WBO welterweight champion Timothy “Desert Storm” Bradley (30-0, 12 KOs) of Palm Springs, California and four time division world champion Mexico City’s Juan Manuel “Dinamita” Marquez (55-6-1, 40 KOs) kicked off their two city press tour for their October PPV showdown on Wednesday afternoon at the Beverly Hills Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. The two will square off Saturday October 12 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“I want to welcome you all to what I believe will be the fight of the year or certainly a candidate for fight of the year,” said Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum. “This fight is for legacy. Timothy wants to win this fight to beat the top Mexican fighter in the world and Juan Manuel Marquez is looking to make history to win 5 world titles in five weight divisions.”

Mexican promoter Fernando Beltran of Zanfer Promotions, who co-promotes Marquez, was also on hand as he spoke on the upcoming bout, “This is the fight everyone wants to see. Two professional fighters, of course, because of their last performances. I think Timothy really fought with his heart. It is one the most sensational fights I have seen live.

“These guys are going to go at each other. They know how to get into it. This is a real fight, a boxing match. Not a guy that is going to be running around outclassing his opponent with his skill but not giving the fans what they paid for. So these two guys will give the fans their money’s worth.”

Marquez trainer Nacho Beristan talked with the media as he anticipates a tough one.

“This is a real natural interesting fight. We recognize the quality of the champion, the way his trainer handles him. I think we will have a complicated night but we have every right to say we will come out victorious,” Beristan said.

Team Bradley was represented by his manager Cameron Dunkin along with Timothy’s father Ray Bradley and trainer Joel Diaz. Diaz spoke about the upcoming preparation and challenge they have in facing Juan Manuel Marquez.

“We are back again in another tough fight. We have by far one of our toughest fights against one of the toughest opponents, an Aztec warrior which is Juan Manuel Marquez. Behind him stands the professor of boxing, the best trainer in the world Mr. Nacho Beristan,” Diaz said. “Now it’s in my hands to put together a plan to beat Juan Manuel Marquez with my fighter, the world champion Tim Bradley.”

Juan Manuel Marquez followed as he welcomed everyone in attendance talked about his upcoming showdown speaking both in English and Spanish, “I want to thank Team Bradley for this fight. Well I have always said if I want to be the best I have to beat the best. Bradley is the champion. I am ready for this fight. The people will see October 12 another great fight because of our styles. I feel focused for October 12. I am training real hard on my strength and speed. That is what is really important for this fight, the speed.”

“This belt is beautiful. Everyone knows what happened in November 2011. This belt should be mine, but October 12 I will be back for it. This is my motivation. I feel happy for this opportunity,” Marquez concluded.

Timothy Bradley made his statement, speaking highly of his counterpart, and promises to give another great performance.

“I want to thank Juan Manuel Marquez It shows you what type of fighter and talent Juan Manuel Marquez has. He is 40, his ability and mental state of wanting to fight the best.”

“I am so pumped up can’t wait to get back to the gym and start training for this fight. I know what I have in front of me, the obstacle I have. It’s going to be a tough challenge. I am not taking him for granted. I don’t care how old he is what he has done in the past, he is facing me now. After October 12 I will be on everyone’s pound for pound list without a doubt. Don’t miss this fight I am telling you it’s going to be an unbelievable night,” Bradley stated.

The press conference concluded as both faced off for the cameras and things got a little tensed as Bradley stepped up to Marquez but that situation was quickly defused.

“You got two top athletes. Marquez in his eyes is very determined and hungry like he wants something it looks like he wanted to take something from me there and I looked the same at him I mean we are both warriors. Call us roosters or gallos (Spanish),” Bradley told Fightnews.com.

“It’s all part of boxing. It’s the psychological tactic of a fighter. For me it’s nothing new. Let’s just say the psychological war has begun,” Marquez told Fighntews.

The Bradley-Marquez press tour resumes Friday in Mexico City. The Bradley Marquez undercard will include Top Rank’s recently signed light heavyweight Shane Monahan (18-0, 11KOs) of Long Beach, New York vs. Anthony Caputo Smith (14-1, 10KOs) in a ten round light heavyweight bout. More on the undercard to be announced shortly.
