Dina Thorslund (14-0, 6 KOs) defends her WBO World Junior Featherweight Title against former World Champion Nina Radovanovic (14-3, 3 KOs) as boxing returns to Denmark on September 26th at the Struer Energi Park.

Thorslund reunites with promoter Team Sauerland to deliver another exciting night of boxing in Struer. The Danish star will be headlining her hometown arena for the fifth time as she makes a third defence of the WBO title she claimed with a unanimous points win over Jessica Arreguin Munoz in 2018.

“I’m really looking forward to boxing again,” says Thorslund. “It’s been over a year since I’ve been in the ring, and my motivation has only grown, so I’m really looking forward to it. Nina Radovanovic is a good opponent, who works hard. I expect her to try to put me under pressure, but she will not succeed with that.

“I am happy to be working with Team Sauerland again. The cooperation works really fine. It gives me some peace of mind in the build up to the fight, as I know they know what they are doing, so I just have to concentrate on boxing.

“The pandemic put an end to me being able to fight, but my motivation hasn’t been affected. It’s the same as it was before and I’m 100% motivated. People can expect a top tuned Dina on September 26th. I have been training and waiting a long time for this fight, so I expect to be sharper than ever.”

Thorslund can expect a tough test as she returns to the ring for the first time following her points victory over April Adams in June 2019. Her opponent Radovanovic is an experienced contender. The 28-year-old Serbian is a former IBO World Champion, who has also fought twice for WBC honours.

“I’m very excited to face Dina,” said a confident Radovanovic. “I’ve watched a few of her fights and it seems that we have a similar temperament. She is a strong fighter and I believe the fight will be very attractive for the audience.

“I’ve had several title fights. They’ve always been exceptional and I have gained a lot of experience from each one, which I will use to my advantage. It’s nothing new to me to fight away from home in my opponent’s country. I love it! It’s what I’m looking forward to. I believe the Danish fans will be in for a surprise.”

“We’re delighted to be bringing boxing back to Denmark,” said promoter Nisse Sauerland. “We’re happy to be working with Dina once again, and excited to return to Struer for the fifth time, where we will be working with TK Promotion to ensure another spectacular night of boxing at the Struer Energi Park.

“In light of the Covid-19 pandemic, we will of course be taking all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of spectators, fighters and officials. We will be working closely with the Danish Professional Boxing Federation, and will continue to follow the latest guidance and advice from Danish authorities.”

Ticket details for Dina Thorslund vs. Nina Radovanovic will be shared in the coming weeks. Sign up to Ticket Alerts for priority booking.

Dina Thorslund (14-0, 6 KOs) defended her WBO Female World Jr. Featherweight title with a dominant display against mandatory challenger April Adams (11-2-1, 4 KOs) last night at the Forum Horsens in Denmark.

The Danish champion showed her class, winning every round on all three of the judges’ scorecards. She also showed her compassion by sparing a visibly stunned Adams in the final seconds of the tenth round, stepping back with smile and allowing the Australian challenger to finish the fight on her feet.

“I feel like I was in control for the whole fight,” said Thorslund following her second successive World title defence. “There wasn’t one second where I felt in doubt. It was a hard physical battle. April is a tough girl. She came here to win. I feel good and I’m very happy to have defended my belt in such a good fight.”

After the bout, Thorslund and her promoter Nisse Sauerland discussed future plans for the Danish star, including a move up in weight with a fight against WBO World Featherweight Champion Heather Hardy topping their wish list.

“That was a fantastic performance from Dina,” said Sauerland. “She showed tonight why she is one of the most exciting female fighters in the world. There are a lot of big opportunities for her now including a move up to featherweight and a fight with Heather Hardy. That would be huge in Denmark or America.”

“I want to be the best and that involves moving up in weight and collecting more titles,” said Thorslund. “I am ready to face anyone and that includes Hardy.”

April Adams (11-1-1, 4 KOs) hopes to have her compatriot Crown Princess Mary of Denmark ringside when she challenges Dina Thorslund (13-0, 6 KOs) for the WBO World Jr. Featherweight title on June 22 at the Forum Horsens.

Adams travels to Denmark in an attempt to dethrone the reigning 122 lbs ruler Thorslund, and the Brisbane-boxer, nicknamed ‘Armageddon’, dreams of doing so in front of the Australian-born Crown Princess.

“It would be absolutely amazing if Princess Mary could attend the event. I understand she has many obligations but my team and I would feel very privileged to have her ringside,” said Adams.

“It would be an honour to be able to perform in front of Princess Mary, not only because she is royalty but because she is a fellow Australian.

“Aussies love their sport and I’ve been overwhelmed by the number of people reaching out. It’s comforting to have people and local businesses wanting to help you and want to see you succeed. I’m so thankful for the support I’m receiving so far.

“Bringing the belt home isn’t just about winning a world title. It’s about giving back to all the people that have helped me on this journey: my sponsors, supporters and especially my team. I want to put Australia back on the world boxing stage.”

Thorslund-Adams tops a stacked card at the Forum Horsens, which also features Kem Ljungquist, Kai Robin Havnaa, Frederik Hede Jensen, Landry Kore, Haris Dzindo, Amer Rasinlic, Michael Nielsen and Joanna Ekedahl.

Tickets for Thunder From Down Under: Dina Thorslund vs. April Adams for the WBO Female World Super Bantamweight Championship are available online via www.ticketmaster.dk or by calling (+45) 70 15 65 65.

Dina Thorslund’s (13-0, 6 KOs) preparations are well underway for her WBO Female World Jr. Featherweight title defence against mandatory challenger April Adams (11-1-1, 4 KOs) on June 22 at the Forum Horsens in Denmark.

The Danish boxing queen is back for a second defence of her WBO crown following a unanimous points win over Germany’s Alesia Graf on January 19, and the 25 year-old from Struer is fully focused on retaining her title.

“My training is going exactly to plan,” she says. “I train twice a day, six times a week. My daily workouts consist of running and boxing training combined with strength and endurance work, and I can feel myself improving every day.”

Ahead of her clash with Australia’s ‘Armageddon’ Adams, Thorslund has been sparring with Horsens boxer Michael Nielsen, the current 56kg Danish amateur champion, who makes his professional debut on her undercard.

“Sparring is definitely the type of training that I love and enjoy the most, and it has gone very well with Michael as he is also preparing to fight on June 22.

“I believe I will be in my best shape ever when I step into the ring, and I’m really looking forward to a great fight at the Forum Horsens because I know April Adams will be coming one per cent prepared and in great shape also.

“This is her chance of a lifetime. Fighting for my World title. That’s the case with all my opponents now. They all want my belt. But I’m going to kick ass more than ever this time. I want to send Adams back ‘Down Under’ with a bang!”

Thorslund’s World title defence tops an action-packed card at the Forum Horsens, which also features Danish heavyweight hope Kem Ljungquist, rising featherweight star Frederik Hede Jensen, Vejle super middleweight Haris Dzindo and Horsens boxers Michael Nielsen and Amer Rasinlic.

Dina Thorslund (11-0, 5 KOs) meets Mexico’s Yessica Munoz (17-1-1, 5 KOs) for the WBO Female World Jr. Featherweight Championship on August 25 in Struer, Denmark.

The undefeated 24 year-old now has the opportunity to add another title to her collection as she meets Munoz for the WBO super bantamweight crown.

“It’s great to have another World title fight with one of the big federations,” said Thorslund. “It is very important to me that my career continues on an upward curve. I only want to face the best to prove I am the best in the world.”

Following two sell-out shows at the Struer Energi Park, Thorslund will once again be counting on home support to overcome her Mexican opponent.

“It’s amazing the fight will take place in my hometown Struer,” she says. “This will be the third time I get to fight in Struer and it’s getting wilder and wilder every time, and my feeling tells me this event will be the wildest one yet.

“My diet and weight is already under control. My shape is really good and I feel I’m at the best starting point ever before a fight.

“It’s amazing the fight will take place in my hometown Struer. It’s like it’s getting wilder and wilder for every time. It’s the third time now I’m going to fight in Struer, and my feeling tells me this event will be the wildest one.

“I haven’t had the chance to study my opponent too much yet, but I’ve heard that she’s a very busy fighter, so there will be more pressure and more physicality in this fight compared to my last.

“Mexican boxers have the reputation of being really, really strong. They come at you like a freight train. So I have to prepare for that. I will have to keep the pace down a bit, because I want to be the one who dictates the pace. I am confident that my will and strength will make me victorious.”

Thorslund’s can expect a tough test from Munoz, who inspired by fellow female fighters Jackie Nava and Ana Maria Torres, subscribes to the all-action ‘Mexican style’, which she has combined with speed and grace to earn the nickname ‘La Gacela’ (The Gazelle).

“Winning a World title is a great motivation for me,” said the 27 year-old. “Dina is a strong rival who likes to fight on the front foot but with my technique and speed I will defeat her.

“I am giving 100% in every training session and I will be prepared for whatever she has to offer. Fighting in her hometown motivates me to be even stronger. I am ready for a great challenge, and like all Mexican fighters I will leave everything in the ring!”

Said promoter Nisse Sauerland: “This is a great opportunity for Dina to establish herself on the World scene. Winning the WBO World title can make her a global star and open the doors to high-profile unification fights in one of female boxing’s strongest divisions.

“She faces a dangerous opponent in Munoz. Mexican fighters are known for the heart and aggression. Two attributes Dina has also shown throughout her career. Like GGG, Dina fights with the Mexican style. Reminiscent of great fighters like Chavez or Barrera.

“She comes forward, she doesn’t back down and she wants to take her opponents out early. That’s what makes her so entertaining to watch and exciting to promote. On August 25, fans can expect an all-action Mexican style showdown in Struer!”

Tickets for the WBO World Super Bantamweight Championship contest between Dina Thorslund and Yessica Munoz on August 25 at the Sruer Energi Park are on sale now and available via www.ticketmaster.dk or by calling (+45) 70 15 65 65.

Braekhus vs. Habazin

By Sauerland Promotions

Boxing history was made in Copenhagen, Denmark last night. Norwegian star Cecilia Brækhus (26-0, 7 KOs) became the first female boxer to unify a division by holding all four major titles simultaneously. The WBC, WBA & WBO Champion scored a unanimous decision victory over IBF Champion Ivana Habazin (13-2, 5 KOs) to become the undisputed welterweight queen.

Cheered on by her loyal army of travelling Norwegian fans, Brækhus once again proved why she is the pound-for-pound female number one with a classy performance against the tenacious Habazin. All three judges scored the fight 100-90 in favour of ‘The First Lady’.

‘’I’ve been dreaming of this moment for a long time,’’ said Brækhus. ‘’To become the first female boxer to unify a division is a huge achievement and something that I am extremely proud of. I would like to thank all the fans that travelled to Copenhagen to support me and Ivana for the part she played in this historic fight.’’

Said promoter Nisse Sauerland: ‘’Cecilia is a phenomenal athlete. Not only will she go down in history as the first female unified champion but it is our belief that she will be remembered as the greatest female boxer of all time.’’

Brækhus’ success was shared by Swedish stablemates Klara Svensson and Erik Skoglund, both of whom claimed titles at Team Sauerland’s Nordic Fight Night show.

‘The Swedish Princess’ Klara Svensson (14-0, 5 KOs) got her first taste of world glory. The 26 year-old from Malmo defeated Marie Riederer (15-2-1, 10 KOs) for the interim WBC Female World Light Welterweight title. The judges scored the fight 100-90, 100-90 and 99-91 for Svensson.

‘’This was the best performance of my career so far,’’ said Svensson. ‘’Riederer was very tough, I hit her with some big shots and she kept coming. Tonight I have shown that I belong at the top with the world’s elite and I’m ready to challenge for the regular title.’’

If you were one of the many boxing fans that were hoping to see American talents WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Andre Ward or Andre Dirrell get the first crack at the April 14th winner of the Mikkel Kessler (44-2, 33 KO’s) vs. Robert Stieglitz (41-2, 23 KO’s), you can pretty much forget all about that happening because it’s not going to go down.

WBO Europe Super Middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (33-3, 27 KO’s) was recently installed as the number #2 contender by the World Boxing Organization and he’s already talking about getting a shot at the winner of the Kessler-Stieglitz fight.

Both Kessler and Abraham fight for Sauerland Promotions, which kind of makes it academic that the fight will be happening next. Will be surprised if Kessler faces Abraham rather than Dirrell or Ward? Nope! I never was crazy enough to think that Kessler would fight either of them in the first place because he already got spanked by Ward once in November 2009 in the Super Six tournament and he’s been making excuses ever since.

And facing Dirrell is like the same as Kessler fighting Ward. Both of them are almost carbon copy talents, only Dirrell brings a little more hand and foot speed and defensive skills to the table.

Kessler will play it safe by fighting the short 5’9” Abraham to get an easy win rather than risking his hide fighting the likes of Ward or Dirrell and losing the WBO belt in his first title defense.

However, I have strong doubts that Kessler will even get by Stieglitz because that’s going to be a very tough fight for him and he’s already badly faded from what he was in 2007. Stieglitz has gotten Kessler at the right point in his career when Stieglitz is at his best and Kessler is on the downside of his career. All Stieglitz has to do is outwork Kessler and he’ll get the ‘W’ in this fight.

Former two-time champion Mikkel Kessler (44-2, 33KOs) is already training for his next fight, scheduled on April 14th in Copenhagen against WBO super middleweight king Robert Stieglitz (41-2, 23KOs). Kessler is not taking Stieglitz for granted and expects a tough fight.

“He’s strong and I know that. I know that we will win against Stieglitz but it will be a tough fight. I’ve fought the best in the world, but Stieglitz is a physically strong fighter and he has strength for all of the twelve rounds and you have to be in very good condition to beat him. That’s very important,” Kessler said.

One of the goals of Kessler is to obtain a rematch with WBA/WBC champion Andre Ward, who decisioned the Danish star in 2009.

“Of course I want a rematch with Ward, but I hope that this time he flies out of his country and flies to my country, or to a foreign or neutral place,” Kessler said.

According to several sources, Robert Stieglitz (40-2, 23 KOs) will defend his WBO super middleweight title against Mikkel Kessler (44-2, 33 KOs) on April 14 in Copenhagen. The fight was originally scheduled for November, but Kessler suffered an injury in training and the date was pushe back to next year. Both boxers will step in the ring from lengthy layoffs. 30-year-old Stieglitz last fought in April in Magdeburg, when he successfully defended his belt against Khoren Gevor, and the 32-year-old Dane has not fought since June, when he scored a sixth round technical knockout over Mehdi Bouadla.
