Hercules versus Kid Terrible

NOT ONLY will he be able to join the illustrious list of champions, but undefeated Jun “Hercules” Doliguez will have an extra-inspiration as he battles Ciso “Kid Terrible” Morales for the World Boxing Oriental featherweight title October 13 at the Batangas City Coliseum.

The fight which is open free to the public is supported by ALA-EH (Association of Local Athletics Entrepreneurs and Hobbyists). ALA-EH founded by sportsman Elmer Anuran aims to develop future world-beaters from the grassroots and provide young athletes the opportunity to show their talents.

‘‘I am praying that this fight will finally end my long search for my elder brother. We have no communications since we parted ways seven years ago. Maybe he will be able to contact me after learning about this bout,’’ said the 21-year-old Doliguez during a break of training under the watchful eyes of veteran Benny dela Peña at the Touch Gloves Boxing Gym at Agoncillo, Batangas.
The boxfest will also feature the likes of Al ‘Captain A’ Sabaupan and Bernabe Concepcion.

‘‘This boxing extravaganza is going to be a night to remember. My fellow Batangueños and fans from other places will witness for free thrilling fights,’’ said Anuran.

Also in the card are Touch Gloves stalwarts, who are eyeing their share of stardom. They are Lolito Sonsona and Jethro Pabustan.

Doliguez is undefeated in 13 fights where he also knocked out nine rivals.Among his victims was battle-scarred fighter Jonel Alibio but he created quite a stir in the local boxing scene when he sent Ariel ‘‘Machine Gun’’ Delgado (20-8-4) to dreamland in the second round of their bout last August 16 at the Lemery covered courts in Batangas.

Anuran, a keen observer and learner of the sweet science, says his ward possesses power and the courage to turn impending defeat into victory.’‘His right hook downed Delgado. This was the first time that Delgado kissed the canvas,’’Anuran. ‘‘Following that victory, I realized that Doliguez can beat the likes of ‘‘Kid Terrible.’’

But Morales isn’t a patsy. Anuran’s Saved by the Bell Promotions is known for putting up interesting cards. ’’Very tough test for Doliguez. We will see after this bout whether Jun is ready for international stardom,’’ ani Anuran.’’Morales is a seasoned fighter and Doliguez needs to box very well in order to win.’’

The 24-year-old Morales sports a 16-2-1, 9KOs, mark. The boxer from Taliban, Bohol fights under the banner of international promoter Sammy Gello-Ani.Kid Terrible previously owned the WBO Oriental Super bantamweight at WBO Asia Pacific Youth bantamweight titles.

He already fought for the world title but lost to Fernando Montiel two years ago in Las Vegas. He drew with Mexican Gregorio Torres last year at the Auditorio Principal del Cnar in Mexico City.

The 5-foot-7 Doliguez has no international experience but his driving force aside from a planned slugfest with Mexican Payasito Hernandez later this year is the thought of welcoming back his Kuya Arnel.

’’I want to become a world champion someday and this bout will help me achieve my dream. Boss Elmer (Anuran) told me that this is huge test for me and I’m ready.’’

Just like other boxers including Saranggani provincemate and legend Manny Pacquiao, Doliguez sees boxing as the only way out of poverty.

‘‘My kuya and I parted ways because we wanted to search for a better future. Touch Gloves treated me very well and Boss Elmer is like a father to me. We’re one big family here and I feel that I owe it to them and the Batangueños to give them an excellent fight,’’ Doliguez said.

Anuran thanked promoters Gello-Ani and Concepcion handler Michael Konz for allowing their boxers to join the ALA-EH boxing show. The 35-year-old sports lover said he originally wanted Doliguez to fight Concepcion (30-6-1, 16 KOs).

‘‘My confidence is high that Doliguez can beat Concepcion. But I also undertand the decision of Koncz not to say yes to this showdown considering that Abe recently lost to the undefeated Mikey Garcia in Puerto Rico,’’ said Anuran.

Trainer Benny dela Peña said Doliguez is ready against Morales, who won his last fight over Jo-As Apericio by 4th round TKO at the New Cebu Coliseum.

‘‘Doliguez faces a difficult fight. But we know what to do come fight night. Our boxer is ready to rumble,’’said Dela Peña.
