La capital del Atlántico será nuevamente la sede de su combate mundialista el próximo 15 de junio ante la argentina Ana Esteche.

“He venido haciendo un trabajo fuerte para mi primera defensa en la que espero dar un buen espectáculo”, dijo Enis Pacheco tras el entrenamiento que realizó ayer en el gimnasio de Cuadrilátero.

Agregó que después de conquistar el fajín mundial ante la brasileña Duda Yankovich se tomó unas vacaciones, pero “ya retorné a los entrenamientos, y estoy preparándome porque la niña argentina viene con hambre de ganar y yo no me voy a dejar quitar el título en mi territorio”.

Enis recibirá un homenaje de parte de la Alcaldía de Sabanalarga durante la velada de boxeo a presentarse allí este sábado y también es una de las invitadas especiales a la Feria de la Mujer que se realizará en esta capital del 25 al 27 de mayo y estará presente en la Carrera Atlética 5K.

“Espero que la gente me acompañe en mi pelea porque su presencia es la que nos anima a combatir”, manifestó la campeona mundial.

Miguel Álvarez, el entrenador de la boxeadora nacida en Puerto Escondido, Córdoba, informó que “Enis viene en un 60 por ciento de su condición y esperamos que en el mes que resta llegue al tope máximo”.

Añadió que “ella pidió venir a entrenarse a Barranquilla para que la gente que la apoyó la esté viendo y acá nos mantendremos hasta el día de la pelea entrenando en Cuadrilátero y en el gimnasio del estadio Metropolitano”.

De la rival, Álvarez opinó que “ya la hemos visto, es una muchacha joven, de 21 años de edad, que también viene progresando en su carrera”.

After a match in Germany with Chisora and Klitschko, Chisora and Haye had a confrontation, an ugly disturbance actually. They were suspended by the Local Commission and Chisora’s boxing licenses was suspended by the BBBofC. They were suspended from WBO Participation under our Rules.

The Promoter of Chisora and Haye applied to the BBBofC to fight each other, not a WBO fight. The BBBofC denied them a license, so they applied to the Luxenburg Commission which granted the license and agreed to have the fight in England. Under EU Law, this is OK. The Austrian Commission, for instance. regularly sanctions matches in Germany.

The WBO was asked to lift our suspension of Chisora and Haye which we would ordinarily do. This is a dispute between Frank Warren and the BBBofC. We are not involved in the Haye Chisora fight in England. We have no reason to continue the WBO suspension. In fact, it was already too long. 45 to 60 days would have been maximum under the facts and circumstances.

The BBBofC objects to the fight in UK because Chisora is suspended and Haye is no longer licensed in the UK. The WBO believes in and supports the free market rights of WBO participants. Under the EU it appears this is Frank Warren’s right to do. The WBO, however, is not taking sides. This is not a WBO sanctioned fight. Our sole inquiry is whether the suspension of Haye and Chisora from WBO Participation should be lifted. I think clearly it should be.

Whether they may or should fight in UK on a Luxenburg license is not our issue.

Even if it were a WBO fight, licensing is not within our jurisdiction. We are concerned only with Sanctioning. The WBO should never restrain trade for issues beyond our jurisdiction.

Under our Rules, we should have lifted it 30 days ago and would have if they asked then. This is the only aspect of the dispute we are involved in and we are restrained solely to application of our Rules and our precedent to their application to the reason for the suspension from WBO Participation.

On May 8th, the WBO ordered both sides to reach a deal by May 28th or a purse bid would be ordered.

Although Pirog’s team is interested, the champion’s handlers are currently trying to reach an agreement to face IBF titleholder Daniel Geale in a unification fight on August 25th. HBO is interested in televising the fight.

One thing Pirog will not do is face N’Dam in his backyard of France.

“We would try to arrange a fight in Moscow or in a neutral territory. All of Hassan’s fights have taken place on his land, and we are not unfounded in concerns about the impartiality of the judges. [The scoring in N'Dam's] fight for the interim-WBA title in October 2010, where [everyone thought] Avtandil Khurtsidze beat Frenchman, and not vice versa, is well documented by the scorecards [which were ruled in favor of N’Dam,” said Kyril Pchelnikov, co-promoter of Pirog.

The World Boxing Organization has given Zauerbek Baysangurov and Lukas Konecny until June 4th to reach an agreeement – or else a purse bid will be ordered.  Baysangurov (27-1, 20KOs), the WBO’s junior middleweight champion, retained the title last Saturday in Brovari with a twelve round decision over Michel Soro. Konecky became the WBO’s interim-champion and mandatory challenger in April when he stopped Salim Larbi in seven rounds.

If it goes to purse bid, the minimum acceptable bid is $200,000, and the purse division shall not be greater than an 80/20 and shall be calculated by the championship committee using a ratio based upon the average purse of each fighter’s last three (3) fights.

Peter Rivera, the vice president of PR Best Boxing, announced that Ivan Calderon, the former WBO champion at 105 pounds, will have the opportunity to regain his crown on July 28 in Puerto Rico. He takes on the current WBO champion Moises Fuentes of Mexico. As Boxingscene.com reported earlier, Fuentes will return on June 2 with an optional defense against countryman Julio Cesar Felix (17-3, 7 KO’s) in Tijuana, Mexico.

Calderon-Fuentes has been postponed several times. Rivera disputes the statements of Fuentes’ trainer, who claims Calderon is not in condition to fight.

“He wanted to take a fight before [facing Calderon] and we said yes and told him to be careful. And that’s what happened. Not that Ivan is out of shape as they say. Everything is agreed upon for July 28 in Puerto Rico, but we gave him the chance to make a defense, “explained Rivera.

I am writing to you regarding the Dereck Chisora vs David Haye bout, to be staged in London, England on July 14, 2012 under the supervision of the Federation Luxembourgeoise de Boxe (FLB). As is common knowledge, it is in full accordance with European Union laws – and, as you know, actually practiced since years in many European countries - for FLB to supervise professional boxing within the jurisdiction of all member countries of the European Union, to which the United Kingdom belongs.

Since neither Mr. Chisora nor Mr. Haye are currently holding a boxers licence from any other Federation nor is either one of them banned or suspended, the FLB has decided, subject to satisfactory medicals, to grant both of them such licences.

Therefore, we are requesting to you to assess the possibility of including them into the WBO heavyweight world rankings and grant their bout eliminator status for the # 1 position.

We are greatly appreciative of your support and look forward to a good cooperation on this promotion with the WBO.

BoxingScene.com recently spoke to WBO junior welterweight interm champion Juan Manuel Marquez who is scheduled to return to the ring on July 14th at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

The four division champion last fought in April when he dominated Sergey Fedechenko to pick up the aforementioned junior welterweight title.  Marquez said he felt strong in what was his first fight at the 140 pound limit. He fought Manny Pacquiao in his prior fight at a catchweight of 144 pounds. 

“I felt very strong with Pacquiao and Fedchenko. I trained very hard for both fights. I feel strong at welterweight and junior welterweight,” Marquez told BoxingScene.com.

Marquez is 0-2-1 in three close fights versus Pacquiao and has openly complained about the scores in all the fights. He feels that he should have won at least one if not all three fights which prompted my colleague Ryan Maquiñana  to ask Marquez if he is worried about the judging in a potential fourth showdown.  

“We will train hard (to get the win) and if I get the fight then great but I need to worry about July 14th first,” Martinez explained as he didn’t want to look too far ahead.

Marquez finished our conversation by saying that he is looking forward to fighting at the Cowboys stadium.  It will mark the third time that Marquez has fought in the lone star state. 

“I will like fighting in Cowboys Stadium. July 14th will be my first time in [in that venue]. Texas has a lot of Mexican people and I will enjoy fighting there,” revealed Marquez.

Marquez is expected to reveal his opponent in the coming days.
